Explore Italy’s most famous cities on this unique vacation. Start in romantic Venice and enjoy a welcome dinner at a local restaurant, guided sightseeing including visits to St. Mark’s Basilica and the Doges’ Palace with its Bridge of Sighs, and a glassblowers’ demonstration. Stay in Florence, and enjoy an Acentaia vinegar tasting, and admire Michelangelo’s David, and sculpture-studded Signoria Square. In Siena, a guided walking tour includes the famous Duomo and Piazza del Campo. Continue to Rome, where guided sightseeing includes a visit to the Vatican Museums and Sistine Chapel, St. Peter’s Square and Basilica, the Colosseum and the Roman Forum. Next is Pompeii, where a guided walk through the excavations of the Roman city both destroyed and preserved by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD is included. End your vacation in the charming resort of Sorrento, where you will stay for two nights and enjoy an excursion to the Isle of Capri and a special farewell dinner a a local restaurant.

ARRIVE IN VENICE, ITALY.

After arrival check into your hotel. At 6pm, meet your Tour Director and travelling companions for a special welcome dinner with wine at a local restaurant. (D)

VENICE.

Highlights of your walking tour with a Local Guide are ST. MARK'S SQUARE and the byzantine BASILICA, lavish DOGES' PALACE and the BRIDGE OF SIGHS. Also watch skilled GLASSBLOWERS fashion their delicate objects in an age-old traditional manner. Afternoon and evening at leisure. An optional excursion to the picturesque island of Burano is available. (B)

VENICE-MODENA-FLORENCE.

Enjoy a special treat today: an ACETAIA VINEGAR TASTING near Modena. Then, a scenic drive through the fertile Po area and the Apennine Mountains into Tuscany and to Florence, "Cradle of the Renaissance." Afternoon and evening at leisure. Time for independent sightseeing and browsing through the shops. Florentine leather goods and gold jewellery sold by the ounce are attractive buys. Why not join an optional dinner at a Tuscan restaurant? (B)

FLORENCE-SIENA.

This morning, follow your Local Guide to the ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS with Michelangelo's celebrated David. Admire the magnificent cathedral, Giotto's Bell Tower, the Baptistry's heavy bronze "Gate of Paradise," and sculpture-studded SIGNORIA SQUARE. Later, a short drive to Siena, Italy's best-preserved medieval town. (B,D)

SIENA-ROME.

Your guided walking tour takes you inside its historic ramparts to the DUOMO and to the PIAZZA DEL CAMPO, famous for the twice-yearly festival, the Palio. Next, drive south along the Highway of the Sun to Rome, the "Eternal City." Tonight, why not join an optional dinner with local specialties at one of Rome's famous restaurants? (B)

ROME.

Start with a guided visit to the VATICAN MUSEUMS and SISTINE CHAPEL, world famous for Michelangelo's ceiling paintings and The Last Judgement. Next, visit monumental ST. PETER'S SQUARE and BASILICA. Balance of the day is at leisure. Savour la dolce vita and enjoy independent activities. Take a stroll along beautiful Via Condotti, discover Rome's hidden treasures at your own pace, or just sit on a terrace and watch people go by. (B)

ROME-POMPEII-SORRENTO.

This morning, arrive in POMPEII, the Roman city both destroyed and preserved by an eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. Your Local Guide will walk you past patrician homes, public baths, and commercial districts strikingly recalling day-to-day life when Rome was at the apex of her power. Overnight in the charming, bayside resort of Sorrento. (B)

SORRENTO. EXCURSION TO CAPRI.

Speed across the bay by JETFOIL to the Isle of Capri. Ride the FUNICULAR to Capri village for a guided visit of this pretty town. Free time to explore the little shops on the Piazzetta before returning to Sorrento. The remainder of the day is at leisure and this evening, enjoy a special farewell dinner at a local restaurant to celebrate the success of your Italian vacation. (B,D)
